Revolution

not sure if i've been out of the loop or just happy with my avatar as it is. i admit that having the top head and body designers giving away freebies of their newest creations could have acted as an incentive to see what's out there. so when i picked up LeLUTKA's free head Lilly i was pleased to discover that their heads are now "evolving" into having their own unique UVmap. what a concept!

of course, it's not any better than the old boxy 2003 version but the concept of updating the map to reflect the current state of mesh should have been done long ago. 

the entire SL system UVmap has been pure crap since inception. you'd have thought the new mesh avi designers could have come up with a map that didn't have to adopt old ancient technology. 

i'm guessing the first tentative steps into mesh avis would have come with some trepidation as to not having any texture base of skins to draw from. of course, looking back, who'd have known just how essential mesh was to become. their caution to totally revolutionize the existing status quo may have had some Linden directions too. who knows? that was then. ancient history. now we move ahead, and LeLUTKA's signaling all the other top level providers to distinguish their brands with unique designer UVs.

and, maybe one day, someone will come up with a UV that allows texture artists to blend the neck to body junction in a sane high resolution triangle to triangle mapping.
