there was a time i was more in tune with what was going on with the fashion industry in Second Life. i'm not sure how anyone could have kept up with all the rumours, scandals, and hype; but, i did try.
it seems, at least for me, that the fashion blogs and feeds had more intriquing personalities and perspectives. love em or hate em, the bloggers on my daily feed stimulated my pleasure to participate. adding my own viewpoint from my daily experiences and accumulating stories from encounters with friends, designers, and readers really gave me a feeling of being a part of it all. i absolutely loved it.
as much as i learned, good or bad, as i climbed the ladder of SL's fashion blogging community, it was always my intention that fashion reporting should improve the various aspects of fashion creativity. whether for the reader or the designer being reviewed, i had in mind to keep it real. if you see something, say what you see.
i had no burning ambition to elevate my position by lying or looking the other way when a glitch or anomoly would reduce the enjoyment of the ordinary every day fashion lovers the world over. yes, i had an influential position and i could craft a complimentary phrase promoting a common design to stellar heights but i wasn't about to sully my integrity and honesty for a dollah.
of course, that stance proved to be disastrous and threatening to the powers that be who seemed to be bent on pursuing a hype or die campaign for all fashion bloggers.
one after another i saw the best of the independant bloggers being taken out. bullying tactics were characteristic among the many brutal incidents i saw unfold. a sick and evil cancer was deliberately and relentlessly consuming the discerning and critical reviewers i came to love. and, as righteious as i felt my voice was, i too succumbed to the slaughter.
but hey, all water under the bridge, no? what impact did our muzzled voices, reacting in fear, fleeing from the demons, have on the community as a whole? who even noticed?
